Safe and effective – way to disinfect our home

These are really unprecedented times we live in at the moment. There are so many changes in our life. From the way did our shopping to cleaning methods and cleaning chemicals that we use now – everything is different. Did you go online recently only to learn that many things that we used to be able to buy freely is not available any longer?

Shoes – sold out. Clothes – no more the size you need. Many of my clients complained they are not able to order certain cleaning products any longer. You could spend hours trying to find at least some cleaning product that has the word “disinfectant” on its label.

Today I would like to share a small recipe on how to make your own disinfecting product. You could always use chlorine bleach. It is widely available. But please remember, there are many rules that you should follow if you use bleach as a cleaner or as a disinfectant. (Always dilute it in correct proportions before using). Bleach is a very strong chemical, and it is not advisable to use it often because of that.

Bleach is not safe and should be handled carefully. It is not safe choice for household with children. And it is not safe for pets too or for the environment. When using bleach it remains on the surfaces and continues to emit fumes. It is simply not a healthy choice for the family.

There is a great alternative to harsh chemical products and you could make it yourself!

It is possible to make natural cleaning disinfecting solution and it is not expensive or harmful for our health, so it’s a win win.

Very simple is to use rubbing alcohol, or vodka, undiluted. It must have at least 70% alcohol content to kill viruses. This solution is effective against coronavirus. Try adding your favorite essential oil to the bottle. For example tea tree essential oil has antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobal, antiviral properties. It is best to spot test before use.

Here is another combination for natural cleaner:

  • Please remember that vinegar does not kill coronavirus.
  • For the disinfecting cleaner please have:
  • Spray bottle preferably glass
  • 20 drops of tea tree essential oil
  • 10 drops of orange essential oil
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 2 cups boiled water

First of all, if you boil the water and cool it before use, it will provide the cleaner with longer shelf life as it will kill germs in the water.

Mix the ingredients in the glass spray bottle. This solution can be stored up to 2 weeks.

Thorouoghly clean the surface before disinfecting. Better spray the cleaner on a microfibre cloth, and wipe the surface. Leave the disinfectant to work for about 10 minutes before wiping it off.

We can always try to use less chemicals in our household for the benefit of our family health and to promote a healthy planet
